Well, we finally had a small meeting last month. We met at Lee Adams shop in Bandera. There was a lot to talk about since we haven’t met in over a year. Joe had put together a good list of questions about the clubs plans for the next year. There were many good ideas discussed. See the minutes for details [The minutes should appear in next month’s issue. –ed.].
I’m still hoping to have a meeting at the Hub soon. It may be possible for us to have the club picnic in June. That would give us a chance to arrange for a meeting. We also discussed a field trip in Kerr County. I will apologize for losing track of the date. I’m still cutting broken limbs and trees from the ice storm. There is still plenty to do here. If you have any questions about what to bring to the picnic, give me a call at 325-248-1067. I’ll do my best to remember when it is.
Till then stay safe and keep looking down.
The Treas Says
This past December, our executive committee decided to award Dinosaur George our club’s annual “scholarship.” George has presented Countless talks to hill country school children. He has given several talks to our club as well. In addition to that, George has also held two large shows with his impressive traveling museum at the pioneer pavilion for Fredericksburg school kids.
George lost a kidney to cancer, thought he had defeated the disease, only to have it return to his lungs. He continues the battle today. Because of the covid 19 pandemic, he has lost almost all of his income. For all these reasons our executive committee, felt he was deserving of our award.
This announcement is delayed due to George’s moving to another town, the Original check being lost in the mail, having to stop payment and reissue A new check. I spoke with George and he was moved, almost to tears, with our Club’s generosity. We should all feel good to reward and to help our friend in need.
Wishing Everyone Well
As you all are no doubt aware, we are under a global pandemic brought upon by a coronavirus named COVID-19. We want everyone to stay safe during this crisis and since it is ever-changing (even by the hour!) here some places you can go online to keep up to date regarding COVID-19.
This first link is for the World Health Organization’s advice for the public:
Next up is a link for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
The last two links are specifically relevant for us Texans and they go directly to Department of State Health Service on the Texas.gov website:
May we all gather soon and hunt rocks. Be safe everybody!

May’s Birthstone & Flowers
The May birthstone is the emerald; the flowers are the lily of the valley and the hawthorn plant.
Lily of the Valley
Today, the emerald is associated with wisdom, patience, and growth though traditionally it signified love, fertility, and rebirth.
Emeralds are deep, rich green and many people associate the color with the vibrant technicolor of The Emerald City in the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz.
Lilies of the Valley stand for humility, sweetness, and a return to happiness.
Hawthorn Plants are all about supreme happiness and hope.
