Prez Says
Well it looks like we will miss another month. The HUB will be closed at least until the end of July. I’ve talked to a number of our members about having to miss this many meetings, and we have all agreed that it shouldn’t be a problem to the club. Our finances are in good shape and there are no other items that can’t wait until we get to have another meeting. Vendor applications will go out in August. If anyone still owes 2020 DUES please contact Virginia Adian, v.adian@gvtc.com you will need to be paid up before getting a booth space.
Since we can’t get together to talk about rocks and club functions you can send me your thoughts for the newsletter and I will forward them to Josh. Send to hcgms20@gmail.com I’m looking forward to all of the great articles for the July newsletter. Another thing to think about, when we get to have a meeting again, should we have a potluck or have it catered. You can’t meet if you don’t eat. Let me know what you think. Send to the address above.
Till we meet again.
—Frank Rowell
Membership for 2020
On 24 March, the Fredericksburg Rockhound Membership List was sent to those who have email addresses. A column to the right has the last year dues were paid. Those who have not paid since 2019 were highlighted in yellow. Everyone was reminded to send their dues to our treasurer, Jim Gedeon at our club address.
Only a few have done that, and we now need to drop those who have not paid for 2020. Our membership numbers determine how much we need to send to SCFMS for our federation dues and insurance fees for the next year.
If you do not receive a newsletter next month, it is because your name has been dropped. You will not be added back to our membership without filling out a new Membership Application and submit it along with your dues. This can be mailed or brought to a future meeting. The application form is on our club website.
I will be sending the updated FR Membership list to members after I have dropped those who have not renewed. Copies will also be available at our next meeting for those who do not have email addresses or printers.
Representing Membership Committee,
Virginia Adian
Wishing Everyone Well
As you all are no doubt aware, we are under a global pandemic brought upon by a coronavirus named COVID-19. We want everyone to stay safe during this crisis and since it is ever-changing (even by the hour!) here some places you can go online to keep up to date regarding COVID-19.
This first link is for the World Health Organization’s advice for the public:
https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public
Next up is a link for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html
The last two links are specifically relevant for us Texans and they go directly to Department of State Health Service on the Texas.gov website:

May we all gather soon and hunt rocks. Be safe everybody!

July’s Birthstone & Flowers
The July birthstone is the ruby; the flowers are the larkspur and the water lily.

In ancient times, the ruby was regarded as the “king of gems” by the Hindus. All rubies are red and come in various shades of the hue. Ruby comes from the Latin word rubeus, which means “red.”
The ruby is among the hardest natural gemstones, second only to the diamond.
The larkspur can grow up to eight feet tall and comes in a variety of colors such as pink, white, or purple.
Water lilies float on the surface of natural waters such as ponds. They help deter algae growth and provide shade for wildlife below.
