I’ll start with saying we will not have a meeting in February. We did have a field trip on Jan.16th in Mason at the Llano River. 14 people attended the trip and we had a chance to discuss some of the club needs. This was the first time in almost a year that we have met in person. The weather was ideal for the outing. I think everyone had a good time, and collected a few rocks. If you would like to make a trip to Mason, the trip information is in last month’s newsletter. We left enough rocks for future trips. If you want to see the Stromatolite, it can be seen from Camp Holland road. Look toward the south at the ranch gate a short distance along the road. To get a closer look you have to be in a kayak or canoe.
With the vaccine coming in the next few months, it should be possible for us to have meetings again. The Hub senior center has been closed to meetings since last March. So, get out and get a shot ASAP. Once we get back together, we will have a lot of rebuilding to do to bring our membership back to where it was. We will need to put a gem show committee at the top of the list. This will be needed to get back to having a good group at our meetings. That’s about all for now. I hope everyone is doing well and I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.
Wishing Everyone Well
As you all are no doubt aware, we are under a global pandemic brought upon by a coronavirus named COVID-19. We want everyone to stay safe during this crisis and since it is ever-changing (even by the hour!) here some places you can go online to keep up to date regarding COVID-19.
This first link is for the World Health Organization’s advice for the public:
Next up is a link for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
The last two links are specifically relevant for us Texans and they go directly to Department of State Health Service on the Texas.gov website:
May we all gather soon and hunt rocks. Be safe everybody!

February Birthstone & Flowers
The February birthstone is the amethyst; the flowers are the violet and the primrose.
The February birthstone, the amethyst, is said to strengthen relationships and give its wearer courage. Amethysts are a type of quartz often found in geodes amidst cooled lava. Their purple coloring runs the gamut from reddish purple to a bluish lilac. The finest quality is a strongly saturated reddish purple to dark purple as long as the stone does not become too dark to see its brightness.
The February birth month flowers are the violet and the primrose.
Violets signify watchfulness, loyalty, and faithfulness.
The other February birth flower is the primrose, which lets someone know you can’t live without them.
