Fredericksburg Rockhounds Meeting Minutes
— July 5th, 2021 —
Approx 25 in attendance
Guests – Michael and Dawn Egger and Cynthia and Greg French
Steve Perez opened the meeting at 7 pm, stepping up from VP to President temporarily, while Frank Rowell was in the hospital. Patty Felts stood and gave the club information on Frank’s condition and the Verstuyft’s passed a get well card around for everyone to sign for Frank, which Patty took to him.
Steve then announced the clubs purpose so the new members and guests would have that information. Afterword we watched a DVD program on the New Madrid Earthquake 1811.
Steve announced that all paid memberships are extended through 2022. Dues for 2022 can be paid starting in Sept/October 2021.
In August, we will be doing a BYO for dinner/snack/drinks. Member Susan Olsen is retiring from the position of Hospitality and we need a volunteer to step up for that. Their job would be to help set up pot lucks when they start back up as well as clean up and bringing drinks and ice. Please consider helping the club by volunteering. This is a huge part of what makes the club enjoyable and a “night out.” If you are interested please contact a club office and they can help get you the information you need. Many thanks to Susan for all of her assistance over the years!
JIm Gedeon announced the club has $16,749 in the treasury.
Virginia Adian attended the Abilene show and mentioned that the AFMS president was also in attendance.
A show in San Antonio at Wonderland Mall of the Americas will be the 2nd weekend of August.
Club members voted to place Steve in the temporary position of President and Lee Adams as acting VP while Frank Rowell was out ill. It will revert back to normal positions when Frank returns. We wish Frank all the best and hope to see him again soon.
Patty Felts motioned to adjourn, it was seconded and the meeting closed.

August’s Birthstone & Flowers
The August birthstone is the peridot; the flowers are the gladiolus and the poppy.
The peridot is a symbol of strength. It is light green in color and as such is sometimes called the evening emerald. It can be found in the volcanic lava of Hawaii as well as in meteorites.
The largest peridot found to date weighs in at 319 carats and is on display in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
The gladiolus, also known as the sword lily, stands for remembrance and calm.
Poppies come in different colors and have various meanings. Red poppies are for pleasure; white for consolation; and yellow for wishes of wealth and success.
